because one of my clients arrived on the island two days ago and went to check out Hanalei Bay, where our photo session’s been planned. She was disappointed that there were more people on the beach than she'd imagined, more than she’d seen in photos on line. I can understand that. The world is swiftly getting crowded. Here’s the thing about the iconic Hanalei Bay. There probabaly isn’t a more majestically dynamic location anywhere on the island. There’s the mountains, Hihimanu, Namolokama, and Mamalahoa lying in soft mist, profusions of jungly rain forest, the lazy Hanalei River, and let’s not forget the stately pier with tons of great angles for a photographer like me. So what about the crowds? For me, not a problem. First I always elimate from my compositions most of the beach goers and swimmers, and if I cannot frame them all out like in wider shots, I remove them in the post producing stage unless they add to the dynamics of the overall photo ambience. The photographs on this web page are from a shoot at Hanalei pier, a few days ago, Nov 2nd 2021. The beach was as crowded, perhaps more so than I’d ever seen in early November. Did it matter? Once we started shooting, none of us even noticed.
